Subject: Lexical Inventories for (medical) doctors with/without Information about their Biological Sex

Dear all,

In Japanese, there are two (types of) words for (medical) doctors
with/without information about their biological sex, i.e. i-shi
“medicine-professional” ‘doctor’ and jo-i “woman-medicine
(professional)” ‘female doctor’; however, there is no counterpart of
jo-i, which would be rendered as dan-i “man-medicine (professional)”
‘male doctor’. Henceforth, the three (types of) words, actual or not,
will be referred to as D(octor), F(emale)-D(octor), and
M(ale)-D(octor). That is, the lexical inventory for doctors in
Japanese is of the type {D, F-D}. Here, as relevant information for
the lexical inventories for doctors, please note that it is common
knowledge among Japanese speakers that there are more male doctors
than female ones; according to a 2022 OECD survey, the ratio of female
to male doctors in Japan is 23%.

My question is if there is any language in the world whose lexical
inventory for doctors is of the type {D, F-D, M-D} and whose society
is like the Japanese one, where there are more male than female
doctors.
I would really appreciate it if you could let me know if there is such
a language or if you could give me some relevant references.

Thank you very much.

Best,

Katsuhiko Yabushita
