Research Assistant Professor in English Language and (Applied)

The Department of English and Communication within the Faculty of
Humanities at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has a long history
of conducting cutting-edge research in language and communication and
producing high quality graduates for the professional workplace. With
a team of around 27 full-time academic staff, our focus areas are
professional communication and applied language studies, and we
provide teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.

The Department is now inviting applications for the position of
Research Assistant Professor. Priority will be given to applicants
with demonstrated record of research in (Applied) Linguistics,
Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Generative
AI/LLMs (e.g. ChatGPT), across various methodologies.

The appointee will be required to do the following:
 - conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external
research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal
Investigator or Co-Investigator;
 - provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
 - contribute to departmental service; and
 - perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or
his/her delegates

Applicants should meet the following requirements:
 - have a doctoral degree in (Applied) Linguistics, Computational
Linguistics, or a related discipline;
 - have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in
research and teaching in some subdivisions of their field;
 - be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and
 - be highly proficient in written and spoken English.
Strong preference will be given to those with specialisation in
artificial intelligence and data analytics (AIDA) and especially with
the current global interest in Generative AI.

A highly competitive package includes a medical benefits plan and a
gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for
three years initially, with the possibility of extension.
