Language Policy and Language Planning - Language Management in Public
and Educational Spaces

Focus: The topics covered during the Summer School will be the
following:
• language management, practices and ideologies in European and
non-European contexts;
• language policies in linguistic landscapes and schoolscapes;
• projects and best practices for managing multilingualism in the
classroom.

The Summer School will be characterized by an alternation of lectures
and practical workshops.
Will be provided tools for quantitative-qualitative research in the
linguistic, language education, sociolinguistic and ethnographic
fields, and the outputs of the Erasmus+ project "TEAM - Teacher
Education About Multilingualism" will be presented. The 2023 Summer
School represents one of the Multiplier events of the "TEAM" project.
The International Summer School will be anticipated on 3-4 July by a
Doctoral Colloquium.

Description:
The University for Foreigners of Siena and the CLUSS Center, in
collaboration with the Doctoral School, will host the V International
Summer School in “Language Policy and Language Planning - Language
Management in Public and Educational Spaces” from the 4th to the 7th
of July, 2023.

• David Malinowski, San Jose State University
• Silvia Melo-Pfeifer, University of Hamburg
• Sofie Henrikson, University of Helsinki
• Internal professors and researchers, University for Foreigners of
Siena

Who can apply:
The Summer School is aimed at master degree students, graduates, PhD
students, Post-doc researchers and teachers, interested in the
disciplinary fields and topics listed above.
The Doctoral Colloquium / I edition 2023 (which also includes the
Summer School) is intended for PhD students of the University for
Foreigners of Siena (curriculum I), of the University of Graz, the
University of Maroua and Rutgers University who are interested in
topics related to acquisitional linguistics, educational linguistics
and language teaching. During the Doctoral Colloquium they will have
the opportunity to discuss their research.

registration;
- Students and staff of the University for Foreigners of Siena: free
registration (the payment of the revenue stamp of € 16.00 is required
for registration)
- PhD students also involved in the Doctoral Colloquium (University of
Graz, University of Maroua and Rutgers University): free registration
(the payment of the revenue stamp of € 16.00 is required for
registration)


For all types of subscribers, those who wish to have the final
certificate issued are required to pay €32.00 (consideration of 2
revenue stamps of €16.00, one for the certificate request and one for
the release).

Registration Instructions:
The Summer School will be activated with a minimum of 20 participants.
Registration must take place by completing the Google form by the 10th
of April, 2023. Registration will be completed with payment, which
must be made via PagoPA or bank transfer by the 5th of May, 2023 (the
bank details will be disclosed in case of course activation).
