Meeting Description:

Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provides
opportunities for its members to share their research and teaching
experiences with colleagues in literature, language, and allied
disciplines. The MLA's annual convention brings together scholars from
around the world to share their work, and strengthen the study and
teaching of language and literature.

The Linguistics and Literature Forum is a special interest Forum of
the MLA, sponsoring two panels at the convention on selected themes,
issues, or theoretical approaches relevant to the intersection of
linguistics and literary studies.

Call for Papers:

Language, style, and reader agency in Cli-fi (climate fiction):

How do language and stylistic choice shape readers’ agency in texts
(e.g., literary works, graphic novels, non-fiction) that explore
climate emergency discourse through narrative? Literary works are
crucial not just to framing the discussion of the climate crisis but
also to fostering and supporting agency and – crucially – hope. The
stories we tell, and how we tell them, shape how the audience or
reader understands their role in the narrative of climate justice.

Abstracts should be submitted through a dedicated portal. Please see
here: (https://forms.gle/R9bLPczRPfNrDoW46) for more information, and
for submission.

Abstracts should be submitted by 24 March 2023.
Acceptance notifications will be sent by 1 April, 2023.
