Meeting Description:

The Young Researchers Forum is a one-day, in-person event on June 5,
2023 organised by doctoral students from the Department of Linguistics
and Translation, City University of Hong Kong. It offers an
opportunity for master's students, doctoral students, and young
doctors in any Linguistics and Translation Studies branch to share a
part of their research journey: What to do when reaching a
methodological Crossroads?

The Forum is a space for young researchers to share successes,
concerns, and overall experiences related to methodological
challenges. It also falls one day before "The International Symposium
on Linguistics, Language Applications and Translation Studies in the
Big Data Era", held at City University of Hong Kong. Therefore, apart
from being a networking platform, the one-day event is a chance to
discuss and receive feedback from peers and attending scholars. The
essential requirement is a concrete methodological issue or doubt.
Presenters may share either how they solved it (if they already have
done so) or the methodological predicament, eliciting comments and
suggestions.

POSSIBLE CROSSROADS (please feel free to send us anything else you
feel relevant to the event’s theme):
- Qualitative, quantitative, triangulated analysis (what works best
with the data I collect?)
- Design of questionnaires or interview protocols
- Data analysis software
- Contextual and bio information from subjects
- Methodological choices and ethical review
- Effective data presentation

Please find detailed information on our Call for Abstracts below. If
you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email
(crossroadsresforum at gmail.com).

We are looking forward to welcoming you at the City University of Hong
Kong!

The organising committee,
Sandra KALTENEGGER, Andrea MUSUMECI, Vivian Yi Yuk YIP
(Department of Linguistics and Translation, CityU)

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

You may have reached a stage in your project where your database is
defined but are at a crossroads with methodology. You may have already
selected a methodological approach and would like to know whether you
are on the right path. The Young Researchers Forum awaits your

minutes, followed by 10 minutes of QA. Accepted submissions will be
collected into a book of abstracts.
