Linguistic Field(s): Language Acquisition

Call Deadline: 15-May-2023

Meeting Description:

The conference responds to a widely recognized need for an updated
knowledge base and innovative methodological tools in the study of
temporal and modal representations in a second language (L2) or
additional language. It aims to complement previous research
perspectives by providing a dynamic exploration of recent, up-to-date
issues in contemporary research. We expect that the outcome of this
conference will allow us to improve our TAML2 vision of linguistic
theory, second language learning, second language acquisition (SLA),
language teaching and the study of heritage languages. Both
theoretical and pedagogical implications of the research on
acquisition and learning of TAM will be discussed. This conference
will also allow us to strengthen networks of scholars working on SLA
from different perspectives.

TAML2 brings together researchers, coming from many different
countries, working on different aspects of the acquisition, learning
and teaching of TAM in second languages. Our goal is to gain insight
into the acquisition and learning of TAM representations in a second
or additional language, as it is one of the most challenging tasks for
second language learners. Both theoretical and practical implications
of the research on acquisition and learning of TAM will be discussed.
This conference will also allow us to strengthen networks of scholars
working on SLA and to set up new national and international
collaborations.
All presenters will be invited to submit their work for the selected
proceedings of the conference, which will be published as a special
issue by an international journal.

Plenary Speakers:

- Antonella Sorace, Bilingualism Matters, The University of Edinburgh
- Iraide Ibarretxe-Antuñano, Universidad de Zaragoza
- Eloi Puig-Mayenco, King’s College London

Project Teoría-ELE:

- Alfonso Zamorano Aguilar, Universidad de Córdoba
- María Martínez-Atienza de Dios, Universidad de Córdoba

Call for Paper:

We invite presentation abstracts from scholars and researchers from
any of the following linguistic approaches, in line with the
conference theme:

- acquisition of tense, aspect and modality (TAM) in second languages
(L2)
- aspectual, temporal and modal representations in an L2/L3
- pedagogical implications of TAML2 research findings
- methodological issues
- contributions to theory building

Paper proposals should not have been previously published. More than
one abstract per author can be submitted. All submissions will be
reviewed anonymously by the scientific committee and evaluated in
terms of rigour, clarity and significance of the contribution, as well
as its relevance to research on L2 temporality.

Abstracts in English or Spanish should be submitted using the
following online form: https://forms.office.com/e/LFzxVqzd7d
Abstracts should contain the title of the paper and a 300-word max.
description of the proposed talk, including: the aims, methodology and
main findings of the study, as well as a list of bibliographical
references.

Deadlines:

Submission of abstracts 15 May 2023
Notification of acceptance 15 June 2023
