Meeting Description:

The 5th International Conference "Literacy and Contemporary Society:
Creativity, Equity, Social Action" is organized at a time of fluidity
and complexity, in which both human lives and social well-being are
threatened. Conflicts continue and are maintained, natural disasters
call for our rehumanization, technologies constantly create new
realities as spaces of opportunity but also of uncertainty, while
education as a right and an institution is called upon to adapt to
local and global social crises. In these troubling times, literacy –
as multiple, social and critical - can be an essential basis and a
crucial starting point for the transformation of practices and the
reconstitution of institutions and societies.
Focusing on "Creativity, Equity, Social Action", the conference
attempts to highlight the dynamic, social and critical dimensions of
literacies in times of crisis. The conference aims at providing a
platform for the discussion of ways in which individuals, groups and
societies can work together creatively, to promote and maintain
relations of dialogicality, equality, and coexistence, not only among
people, but also between people and nature, matter, technology.
Seeking literacies that ensure equity and (social) sustainability, the
conference provides space for interested delegates to consider
relevant issues which extend beyond language teaching and concern
literacy education in its broader terms.
