Meeting Description:

The Research Groups ACTRES (Contrastive Analysis and Translation
English-Spanish) and TRACE (Translation and Censorship) together with
the Department of Modern Languages at the University of León are
pleased to announce the 4th International Symposium Parallel Corpora
PaCor 2023, to be held at the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras,
University of León, Spain, on November 22-24, 2023.

>From its first edition at the University of Santiago de Compostela in
2016, PaCor has stood out as a meeting point for researchers who
compile, design and use parallel (and other types of multilingual)
corpora in different areas. Linguists, engineers and statisticians
cooperate in developing bilingual and multilingual corpora and tools
for corpus analyses of increasing complexity to meet the needs of
researchers in a wide range of different disciplines including
Lexicography, Contrastive Linguistics, Translation Studies, Language
Teaching and Learning, and other global cross-cultural and
cross-linguistic communication areas. PaCor aims to encourage
fine-grained cross-linguistic research comprising two or more
languages (one of which should be Spanish) from a broad range of
theoretical, methodological and empirical perspectives. New challenges
regarding advances in computation will find their space here too. We
hope this 4th edition of PaCor helps researchers share new findings
and technical developments with the whole corpus linguistic community
and raise questions for further investigation in the field.

Call for Papers:

CONFERENCE THEMES
As the main topic of the conference is Parallel Corpora across
Disciplines: New Challenges Ahead, we invite contributions addressing
theoretical, methodological or empirical issues regarding innovative
uses and applications of parallel (or other types of multilingual)
corpora including Spanish as one of the working languages in one of
the following (but not restricted to) research areas:
– Contrastive Studies, at any level of linguistic analysis
– Translation Studies
– Language Teaching and Learning
– Tools and methods for the compilation, annotation and exploitation
of parallel and other types of corpora for linguistic research.

We invite submissions for full papers, posters and software
demonstrations. Full papers and software demonstrations will be 30
minutes (20 minute-presentation + 10 minutes for discussion). Poster
presenters will briefly introduce their posters during a particular
session (about 5 mins). Posters must be A0 size (portrait) and will be
displayed for the conference duration.

Abstracts should be 450-500 words (excluding references) and can be
submitted in English or Spanish. Abstracts should formulate a
straightforward research question and include a description of the
method, results and conclusions.
