Meeting Description:

The Graduate Student Network of the Language, Communication and
Culture signature research area at the University of Alberta in
Edmonton, Canada is pleased to announce that the 2023 Language,
Communication, and Culture Graduate Conference will be held online on
August 16th and 17th, 2023.

This year’s theme is “Language and Society in the Digital Age.” Modern
digital communication has profoundly impacted our world, and we want
to see your insights on these changes!

The LCC Graduate Student Network welcomes graduate student applicants
from all over the world working in these, or related, fields, and on
any language(s) and/or culture(s). There is no cost to register or
attend and the conference will be hosted virtually.

The conference will be hosted virtually. The LCC Graduate Student
Network operates on Mountain Daylight Time. However, we will try to
accommodate different time zones when feasible and if relevant
information has been provided.

Call for Papers:

We invite abstract submissions for academic presentations that focus
on topics such as:
- computer-mediated communication
- internet culture
- emojis
- social media
- online education
- internet language
- artificial intelligence (AI)
- parasocial interaction
- digital marketing
- digitization and online archiving

Submission Guidelines

Academic presentations will be 15 minutes in length, followed by a
5-minute discussion period. Abstract submissions should meet the
following formatting requirements:
- Abstracts should be uploaded as Word or plain text files (e.g.,
.docx, .rtf), not as PDFs.
- Abstracts must not exceed the 250-word limit.
- Abstract titles, references, and keywords should be clearly
indicated.
- Use 12-point font size, and 1-inch margins on all sides of the
document.
- Additional figures may be included in addition to the main abstract
text.

Abstracts will undergo blind peer-review. Acceptance is based on
quality of content, originality, relevance, and academic significance.
