Subject: ‘Plurilingualism, Pedagogy and Identity: insights into current practice.’

Dear Colleagues,

We, Dr. Jessica Clapham (UWTSD) and Dr. Christopher Shank (Bangor
University), are calling for chapter proposals for our upcoming edited
volume tentatively titled “Plurilingualism, Pedagogy and identity:
insights into current practice.” The book will be submitted to
Palgrave.
Our goal is to bring together researchers and practitioners to the
critical conversation surrounding the issues of Plurilingualism in
language education.
This volume aims to explore research and practices that address the
processes of multilingual education in ways which focus on a
plurilingual approach. It is recognized that, to date, the
relationship between plurilingualism pedagogy and negotiation of
identity (Pavlenko, 2010) has not been fully explored. This volume
would fill a gap in the literature by presenting and discussing a
series of case studies where either a) an Translanguaging approach to
TESOL has been adopted; b) contributors consider Multilingual
Education processes they are familiar with in the light of an
Translanguaging approach; and/or c) where contributors offer a
critique of plurilingual approach to international education.

To address the issue of Multilingual Education from an plurilingual
approach, higher education institutions need to become aware of the
different underlying discourses or ideologies of the Multilingual Turn
(May 2014, Conteh & Meier 2014, Camilleri 2016, Romanowski & Jedynak
2018) and social and educational practice. We should be actively and
critically involved in the process, by recognizing and addressing the
relationship between Plurilingualsim, Pedagogy and Identity a TL
approach. In this sense, TL would become a commitment to
Mutlilingualism far beyond the rationales of commercial gain,
competitiveness, and become an end in itself, a real process of active
engagement both within and outside of university boundaries.
If you are interested, please send a proposal including a tentative
title, author list, and abstract (200-word max) by June 30, 2023.
Prospective authors will be notified on July 31, 2023. Proposals &
queries should be submitted to Dr. Jessica Clapham at
j.clapham at uwtsd.ac.uk and Dr. Christopher Shank at
c.shank at bangor.ac.uk

Please also feel free to circulate this call for book chapters with
colleagues who may be interested. Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Jessica and Christopher
