Call for Papers:

Romanian studies scholarship frequently involves research done by
Romanian academic immigrants in various universities around the world,
pursuing the multiple threads interlocked with their national
background. The legacy of Romanian civilization enhances their
academic experience, developing original hyphenated approaches to
culture that carry the native specificity into various scholarly
fields, be they literary, language studies or intercultural
communication. In the last thirty years, however, there hasn’t been
enough academic focus on the Romanian-American or American-Romanian
connection, for instance, which is a field that deserves further input
from researchers on both sides of the Atlantic. Recently though, there
emerged a Romanian Studies Centre at Lund University in Sweden, where
dedicated Romanian scholars issue a journal that encompasses research
by Romanian academics with a passion for their own cultural roots.
>From these and other initiatives, Romanian cultural studies may hope
to receive an academic boost and also become better represented in
universities at home. Following the scholarly example of the Romanian
Studies Association of America and that of the Romanian Studies Center
in Lund, we also welcome to the next issue of our journal research
about Romanian language and literature, translations studies, visual
and performing arts, cultural studies, anthropology, education as well
as reviews of works within these fields. The articles should focus on
case studies as well as on theoretical issues or around methodological
debates in emerging or developing fields, and may be on topics such
as:
Romanian language studies (phonetics and phonology, linguistics,
pragmatics etc.)
Translation studies (from Romanian into other languages and vice
versa)
Romanian-American cultural connections
American-Romanian cultural relations
Film studies: the influence of Hollywood and the European cinema on
the Romanian movie industry
Music studies: the influence of jazz, rock and pop music on Romanian
composers and performers
Reception Studies (of American culture in Romania or Romanian culture
in America)

Please note that the above topics are not exclusive and any
contributions on the proposed theme are warmly welcomed. Likewise, the
journal section titled Miscellaneous may include papers that are not
related to the present theme and we also have a Reviews section, for
recent titles of relevance.
