Call for Papers:

The Department of English Language and Literature (DELL), College of
Arts, Kuwait University is pleased to announce an upcoming event
focusing on current trends in applied linguistic research. The
conference sets out to present state-of-the-art research across and
within applied linguistics that is informed by corpus linguistics and
Artificial Intelligence. This conference aims to bring together
scholars, researchers, and practitioners from around the world to
exchange knowledge, explore new ideas, and discuss cutting-edge
research in the field of applied linguistics. The conference aims at
highlighting how to move forward with research, given the substantial
hurdles now faced by applied linguists. The study of language and its
applications have become increasingly complex as technology,
globalisation, and cultural diversity have advanced. Scholars are
today confronted with a plethora of factors influencing language use,
making it difficult to separate and study individual elements. The
interconnectivity of multiple disciplines and the large amount of
information available add to the complexity of the task. To keep up
with the changing nature of language use, researchers must navigate
varied contexts, demographics, and linguistic phenomena while altering
their theoretical and methodological approaches. The sheer volume of
data and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration also add
complexity to applied linguistic research. In order to achieve a
thorough grasp of language and its applications, applied linguists
must continuously grapple with the difficulty of integrating results
from other fields and disciplines. Finally, the current complexity of
life provides significant challenges for scholars performing applied
linguistic research, necessitating novel or fine-tuned theories and
methodologies and a thorough understanding of the relationships
between language, culture, technology, and society. We invite
abstracts on theoretical and methodological research that explores how
corpus-linguistics and AI-based approaches can be used to produce
results that will aid in understanding today's difficulties.

Strands of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods

Bilingualism and multilingualism

Computational sociolinguistics

Contact linguistics

Corpus-assisted (critical) discourse analysis

Corpus linguistics methods
