Meeting Description:

The 14th International Conference on Chinese Sociolinguistics will be
held on 20-22 September, 2024 at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University,
Suzhou, China. This biennial event is the main gathering of
sociolinguists internationally in China, providing a unique
opportunity and forum to develop and exchange ideas and research
findings about language and society in its manifold connections and
manifestations.

The International Conference on Chinese Sociolinguistics has grown,
from its beginnings as a small meeting of China-based academics at the
University of Macau in 2002, into the largest sociolinguistics
conference in China. Till now, it has been hosted 13 times at
University of Macau, Nanjing University, Beijing University,
University of Melbourne, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, etc. It
usually draws some 300 participants at home and abroad and comprises a
premier, international forum for developing and exchanging new ideas,
broadening the scope of the discipline, and creating new academic
networks.

Themed Sociolinguistics in a Multilingual World, 14th International
Conference on Chinese Sociolinguistics will place emphasis on the
importance of understanding diversity and disparity as challenge and
as opportunity, exploring new aspects and directions of
sociolinguistics in this increasingly multilingual world.
