About CSUCI:
California State University Channel Islands (CI), established in 2002,
is part of the California State University system, known for its
diversity and academic excellence. It's located in Ventura County,
between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. CI serves approximately 5,400
undergraduate and 170 graduate students, with a strong commitment to

About the Spanish Program:
The CI Spanish Program offers a range of courses, majors, minors, and
certificate programs. They are currently developing an online
Spanish-English translation/interpretation B.A. program.

Position Details:
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics,
native/near-native fluency in Spanish and English, expertise in
second-language teaching practices, and a commitment to diverse
student populations. The initial appointment is for two years, with
eligibility for tenure and promotion in the sixth year. Faculty
typically teach three classes per semester in the first two years,
increasing to four in the third year.

Required Qualifications:
 - Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics (completion by August 2024)
 - Fluency in Spanish and English
 - Experience with diverse student backgrounds
 - Ability to teach in various modalities (in-person, hybrid, online)
 - Ongoing scholarly activity in linguistics

Preferred Qualifications:
 - Experience or training in translation and interpretation

scholarly activities)

 - A statement describing experience working with diverse student

 - A teaching philosophy, including a discussion of how to engage with
historically underrepresented populations, such as Hispanic/Latinx,
Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, and
Native American students

Compensation:
The CSU maintains a systemwide Salary Schedule for Assistant Professor
(Academic Year) faculty. The anticipated, equity-minded starting
salary for this position is $6,800 - $7,500 (monthly). The University
offers excellent fringe benefits.
