Linguistics
Job Rank: Asst/Assoc Professor

Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics

Required Language(s): German (deu)

Description:

Assistant/Associate Professor in German Linguistics/Applied
Linguistics

The Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures
(https://german.la.psu.edu/) at The Pennsylvania State University
invites applications for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
in German Linguistics/Applied Linguistics (tenure-track) to start Fall
2024.

Teaching responsibilities include courses in the undergraduate and
graduate programs in German (our department offers a BA/BS, MA, and
Ph.D. in German, with a specific track in German linguistics/applied
linguistics at the Ph.D. level). The successful candidate will also
have the opportunity to contribute to teaching in the Program in
Linguistics and the Dual Title Ph.D. Program in Language Science.

The field of specialization within Germanic linguistics/applied
linguistics is open, but we have a particular interest in applicants
with expertise in corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, computational
linguistics, or instructional design and online learning. The
Assistant or Associate Professor will bring a promising research
record and is expected to enhance or complement research as carried
out in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and
Literatures, the Program in Linguistics, and the Center for Language
Science.

Duties for both ranks will involve a combination of teaching,
research, and service, based on the candidate’s qualifications.

Requirements for both ranks: Ph.D. in German, Linguistics, or a
related field is required at time of appointment. Candidates must also
have native or near-native ability in English and German. In addition,
successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to
building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or
describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the
opportunity.

To apply: Upload a letter of application, CV, statement of teaching
philosophy, description of your research program, and the names and
contact information of three references at Penn State’s Job Posting
Board (https://apptrkr.com/4639837). Any questions or concerns with
the online application can be directed to Danielle Austin at
dna5019 at psu.edu.

Review of applications will begin November 1, 2023, and continue until
the search is concluded.

Inquiries about the position should be directed to Carrie Jackson,
Interim Head, Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and
Literatures (cnj1 at psu.edu).

The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for
advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. We
