Subject: The American English Sound Bar: a self-pronouncing IPA chart

DiversiPHy is delighted to announce a new pedagogical tool called the
American English Sound Bar:
http://linguisticking.com/SoundBar.html

This freely-available web resource is a self-pronouncing IPA chart
focused on the production of American English segments. This resource
allows students and instructors to read information about vocal tract
anatomy, American English consonants, and American English vowels. All
segments are produced by a native speaker of American English (Roslyn
Burns).

In addition to the self-pronouncing IPA chart resource, DiversiPHy
also includes an American English Sound Bar Quiz where students can
test their knowledge of anatomy and pronunciation:
http://linguisticking.com/SoundBarQuiz.html

While the quiz does provide nudges if the answer is incorrect, it does
not assign scores.

About DiversiPHy: DiversiPHy aims to produce teaching resources for
Phonetics and Phonology that are not conventional in the field. This
includes, but is not limited to, visual representations of scholars
from different backgrounds, inclusion of dialectal variation in
introductory material, and simplified artistic representations to help
students focus on specific learning objectives.

For any questions or comments about the Sound Bar or the Sound Bar
Quiz, please contact Roslyn Burns at ling.rburns at gmail.com
