Meeting Description:

We are happy to announce the Theoretical and Experimental Pragmatics
(Th-XPRAG) workshop, which will be held at the University School for
Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia (Italy) on February 21, 2024 as a
satellite event of the 49th edition of the Incontro di Grammatica
Generativa (IGG49).
Th-XPRAG aims at bringing together scholars working in the fields of
theoretical and experimental pragmatics, to promote the harmonization
of theoretical and empirical investigation about pragmatic facts.
Given its link with the IGG conference, the Th-XPRAG workshop also
aims at promoting the dialogue between pragmatics and formal
approaches to language.
The invited speaker of the Th-XPRAG workshop is Robyn Carston
(University College London).
In addition to Robyn Carston as invited speaker, the workshop will
host a number of oral and poster presentations.
The workshop is organized by the Neurolinguistics and Experimental
Pragmatics Lab (NEP) at IUSS Pavia under the auspices of the XPRAG.it
research network (http://www.xpragit.com/) and is funded by the ERC
project “PROcessing MEtaphors: Neurochronometry, Acquisition and DEcay
(PROMENADE)” (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101045733).
Further information on the Th-XPRAG workshop, including submission
procedures, can be found here:
https://sites.google.com/iusspavia.it/igg49/pre-conference-workshop
The main event, the IGG,  is a conference that brings together
contributions on theoretical aspects of syntax, semantics, morphology,
and phonology within the framework of generative grammar, and has
almost reached its half-a-century anniversary. The invited speakers of
this year’s edition are: Ghislaine Dehaene-Lambertz; Richard S. Kayne;
Cecilia Poletto; Hedde Zeijlstra. Further information on IGG49 can be
found here: https://sites.google.com/iusspavia.it/igg49

Call for Papers:

The Call for Papers for the Th-XPRAG workshop is already open.
Papers are invited in the fields of theoretical and experimental
pragmatics. Topics include the inferential processes
supporting pragmatic competence, its status within the mind
architecture, and its fragility in developmental, neurological,
neurodegenerative, and psychiatric populations. Formal and
computational approaches to pragmatics are also very welcome.

Deadline for submission: December 10, 2023.

Looking forward to seeing you in Pavia!

Valentina Bambini, Chiara Barattieri di San Pietro, Luca Bischetti
