Meeting Description:

The VIII International Conference of the scientific network CHARTA
(www.redcharta.es) will be held at the University of the Balearic
Islands in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) June 19-21, 2024. The congress is
open not only to members of the CHARTA Network but also to any
research that uses archival documentation (legal documents, charters,
letters) as the data source for linguistic, philological, historical,
cultural or any other type of studies that consider the
Spanish-speaking world.

Call for Papers:

Papers (20 minutes + 10 minutes of discussion) on any aspect related
to the edition and study of documents in the history of the Spanish
language are invited. Abstracts, with a maximum length of 300 words,
should clearly state the relevance of the research, the objectives,
the methodology and preliminary results. Proposals should be sent
through the form on the conference website:
https://chartapalma.uib.es/Envio-de-propuestas/. Abstracts may be
written in any Ibero-Romance variety or English, and will be reviewed
by the members of the scientific committee. The deadline for abstract
submission is December 15, 2023. Acceptance will be notified by e-mail
by January 31, 2024. More detailed information will be published on
the congress website www.chartapalma.uib.es.

Papers should preferably focus on one of the following topics:

1. Study of the diffusion of linguistic changes in the geographical
and social space.
2. Archival documentation as a reflection of language and dialect
contact.
3. Manuscript textual heritage and Spanish history.
4. Exploitation of documentary corpora for linguistic analysis.
5. Groups with less access to writing in the history of Spanish:
women, minorities, marginalized groups.
6. Methods and technological challenges in the digital edition of
documents.
7. Technological methods and challenges in the analysis and
presentation of data from documentary corpus

Important dates:
December 15th, 2023: deadline for submission of proposals
January 31st, 2024: notification of acceptance of papers
31st March 2024: deadline for registration at a reduced fee
June 19th-21st, 2024: dates of the conference
