Meeting Description:

Welcome to the 4th International UCM Predoctoral Conference on English
Linguistics (UPCEL 2024) which will be held on January 23 and 24, 2024
in the Faculty of Philology Complutense University of Madrid. This
conference is organised by the PhD Programme in English Linguistics at
UCM. Its main purpose is to get together predoctoral students and
early career researchers from various linguistic fields. It will be a
great opportunity to share completed investigations inasmuch as work
in progress. This year’s edition is titled "Language beyond
boundaries" and it aims to be a forum for reflection and dialogue on
the new contexts, challenges, methodologies and conceptualisations of
the construct of ‘language’ that 21st-century Linguistics faces.

The full program is not available yet but we can already confirm that
we are honoured to count with Dr. Brooks, Dr. Kojima and Dr. Periñán
Pascual as keynote speakers:

- Dr Emma Brooks (University College London): "I grew up speaking a
sort of mixed version of [languages] like an alphabet soup of Punjabi
English and Hindi"
- Dr Naoko Kojima (Ritsumei University): "L2 and L3 motivation in an
English-medium instruction program at a Japanese university"
- Carlos Periñán Pascual (Universitat Politècnica de València): "The
role of linguists in artificial intelligence projects: The case of
ALLEGRO"
