Hello fellow Linguist List followers,

My name is Zackary Leech and I am thrilled to have another opportunity
to share with you about how Linguist List has, and is, changing my
life. In my last update a year ago, my time with Linguist List had
been brief, though impressed upon me already at the time was the
importance of the family I was joining, and that sentiment has only
grown since.

I have seen myself rise to take on greater responsibilities around the
Linguist List, including taking over the Conference announcements,
keeping me busy. However, my busyness means overseeing the life blood
of our globally connected field of Linguistics. What a joy! It is you
all that keep our vital mission of reaching the greater linguistics
field afloat with all of your submissions.

And while we love the submissions, we are in a tight position in which
we need to ask only a little more of you, a donation. Your donation to
Linguist List means everything, big or small.

Without Linguist List, I would not have spent the last two years
working to receive my master’s degree in Linguistics, I would not have
met the wonderful faculty and peers who push me every day to reach my
goals, and I would not have been accepted into the Ph.D. program at
Indiana University, where I am currently situated. It is safe to say
that without Linguist List, and by extension YOUR gracious support
that keeps us here, my life would be radically different, and my
opportunities to pursue that which I am truly passionate about would
be dashed.

This is all to say that, as I reflect on my recent accomplishments,
hardwork and studies, there is no aspect untouched by the incredible
support of Linguist List. And I know many students, professors,
conference hosts and linguistic aficionados feel the same. Further,
when I look in the “mirror”, I am surrounded by the family that the
Linguist List has provided me. As my time with Linguist List comes to
an end, this family will come with me. Dr. Tyers, Dr. Cavar, Justin,
Natasha, Rin, Daniel and all predecessors, have cultivated the
environment that we currently work within, and it is one of
friendship, hard work, and love for what we do.

As I said, my time with Linguist List is, unfortunately, coming to a
close. Having received the radical support that Linguist List offers
to its employees, I have gained fruitful benefits. As such, I write
none of this for self-benefit. I only wish that those who follow me
will have the opportunity to receive the same friendship, leadership,
support and community that I have found here.

Can you help me with my mission of giving future Linguists this
life-changing opportunity?

Thank you for taking the time to hear my plea, that others may
experience the same.
