DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATION

Professor / Associate Professor in Language and Professional
Communication / English Language and (Applied) Linguistics (Ref.

The Department of English and Communication within the Faculty of
Humanities has a long history of conducting cutting-edge research in
language and communication and producing high quality graduates for
the professional workplace. More information about our research can be

The Department is now inviting applications for the position of
Professor / Associate Professor. Priority will be given to applicants
whose research expertise and teaching experience are within one or
more of the Department’s key research areas. Specialisms in the
following domains of study will be preferred: data analytics and
statistical modeling of discourse; quantitative approaches in applied
linguistics; AI/Generative AI in language education and research;
technology, the internet, and language sciences.

The appointee will be required to (a) teach subjects in the
Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes; (b)
contribute to the curriculum design and materials development; (c)
supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects (including
PhD supervision); (d) actively conduct research in the Department’s
research areas and contribute to the development of its research
strengths; (e) assist in the administration of the Department; and (f)
perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or
his/her delegates.

Applicants should have (a) a PhD degree in one of the Department’s
five key research areas; (b) a recognised teaching qualification; (c)
post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subjects at
tertiary level with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching;
(d) an excellent track record of published research, including
experience in project-based research and grant applications; and (e)
excellent English language and communication skills.

appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate
