Job Title: Lecturer in Computational Linguistics
Job Rank: Lecturer

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; Linguistics

Description:

We are looking for a researcher and lecturer in computational
linguistics to join our team. Most of the teaching to be done is in
English and within our popular MA "Speech and Language Processing", as
well as the BA in "Linguistics". Our research is mainly concerned with
creating linguistically sophisticated computational resources. We
build on classic symbolic AI approaches, but explore their combination
with subsymbolic machine learning approaches into hybrid systems. Our
past work has included building resources for computationally
under-resourced languages of South Asia, as well as work on framing,
argumentation and the modelling of non-canonical questions. Our main
theoretical framework is Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) and we work
mainly with the computational suite of tools developed within and for
LFG.

Your responsibilities
 - Developing the LFG computational tools further, particularly in the
area of computational semantics and pragmatics
 - Teaching in the following areas:
    - Machine-Language Processing (overview course)
    - Finite-State Morphology,
    - Corpus Linguistics with Python, Deep Learning with Python,
Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG), Grammar Development (LFG) and
Computational Semantics
 - Maximum of 4 hours of teaching (equivalent to about 2 courses a
semester)
 - Teaching and research organization and coordination

Your skills
 - Knowledge and familiarity with semantic construction
 - Good programming skills
 - Teaching experience
 - Experience with finite-state technology, Prolog/Lisp, Python and
Java will be a plus.
 - PhD degree in computational linguistics or linguistics

We Offer
 - Dynamic working environment with a broad set of research interests
 - Computational linguistics lab (recently refurbished) with GPU
capabilities
 - The position can be used as the basis for a Habilitation and can be
made permanent
