ABOUT THE POSITION

The School of Linguistics and Language Studies (SLALS) invites
applications from qualified candidates for one-year appointment in
Linguistics at the rank of Instructor II beginning July 1st, 2024.

A candidate with a specialization in psycholinguistics or first
language acquisition with secondary specializations in morphology or
syntax is preferred.

This is a teaching position with a load of 6 courses per year over
Fall and Winter terms. The successful candidate will be expected to
teach undergraduate courses to a culturally diverse student body. Some
potential courses are: Child Language (at the 3rd year level),
Language Processing and the Brain (at the 3rd year level), Linguistic
Analysis (a 2nd year course taught once per term), and Introduction to
Linguistics (1st year course taught once per term).


ABOUT THE ACADEMIC UNIT

The School’s Linguistics program is housed in a unit representing a
rich diversity of perspectives on language, with degree programs in
Linguistics and Applied Linguistics & Discourse Studies, as well as
courses, minors or certificates in Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish, German,
Italian, Japanese, and Russian, as well as Communication Courses for
Disciplines and Professions and English as a Second Language for
international students, immigrants, and refugees. Detailed information

QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires:

 - PhD in Linguistics. Candidates close to completion will also be
considered.
 - Excellent experience in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion
in the discipline and on campus.
 - Demonstrated teaching excellence.
 - Demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching contributions.
 - Demonstrated aptitude for teaching courses at the undergraduate
level.
 - Excellent ability to contribute to the academic life of the Unit.

teaching, service, and/or scholarly activities.
