Dear colleagues,

The University of Tromsø The Arctic University of Norway offers two
international MAs in linguistics:

Master in English Acquisition and Multilingualism
The programme is well suited for students who are interested in
studying how English is acquired in first and second language
settings, as well as how the English language is affected by
multilingual situations. Students admitted to the programme will be
closely integrated into the Centre for Language Brain and Learning
(C-LaBL), which is an active and productive research centre working on
various aspects of multilingualism and multilingual language
acquisition. The students will get the opportunity to carry out
hands-on research with the members of the group. The programme
provides a good foundation for work related to multilingualism in both
the private and the public sector, and is well suited for students who
want to pursue a career within research.

Master in Theoretical Linguistics
The Master in Theoretical Linguistics is the flagship research
programme built around the internationally active research group in
formal linguistics at UiT. The programme provides a grounding in
formal aspects of grammar, in particular syntax and phonology, to
prepare students for their own research in language description and
analysis. This course of study emphasizes the ways in which languages
are formally similar, but also different in highly intricate and
specific ways. The programme is especially suited to students
interested in working on understudied languages, or engaged in
comparative and micro-comparative research.

UiT The Arctic University of Norway is situated in the lively and
picturesque city of Tromsø, famous for its many festivals, vibrant
nightlife and spectacular scenery. It is also one of the top locations
in the world to see the Northern Lights.

Students from the EU and Switzerland (the European Economic Area)
study for free!

The application deadline is March 1st. If you have any questions,
contact merete.anderssen at uit.no

Warm greetings from a cold climate!

All the best,
Merete Anderssen
