Description:

The Tri-College Department of Linguistics at Haverford College seeks
to hire a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2024-2025
academic year, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year
pending a successful review and departmental staffing needs.
(Haverford College Linguistics is part of the Tri-College Department
of Linguistics, which also includes Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore
Colleges.)

Candidates will be expected to teach five undergraduate courses a
year, including Introduction to Linguistics, Introduction to Syntax,
and an introductory course or advanced seminar in their area of
expertise. We seek candidates interested in thoughtful, creative, and
engaged pedagogical practices. The ideal candidate will also
demonstrate a commitment to creating an inclusive classroom
environment where a diverse student body can learn and thrive.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics. The appointment begins
July 1, 2024 and classes begin on September 3. It is expected that the
Ph.D. will be completed prior to the start date, but ABD candidates
will be considered.

Candidates should submit (i) a cover letter; (ii) a current CV; (iii)
a teaching statement (3 pages maximum) which addresses the candidate’s
teaching philosophy, teaching experience, and teaching interests,
including a list of courses the candidate would be interested in
teaching; (iv) and arrange for 2 letters of reference to be sent, at
least one of which addresses the candidate’s teaching skills and/or
