Description:
The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at
the University of Minnesota, provides high-quality professional
development opportunities for foreign/world and ESL/EFL language
teachers through its annual summer institute program. Now in its 29th
year, this internationally known program offers institutes on a wide
range of topics that are all designed to link research and theory with
practical applications for the classroom.

In 2024, CARLA will offer ten online (asynchronous and synchronous)
institutes and four in-person institutes (held on the University of
Minnesota campus in Minneapolis). See full list:

Financial Aid: Applications accepted until 15-Mar-2024
The Priority Teacher Professional Development Scholarship program is
designed to promote equity and access to affordable professional
development for world language educators who are currently teaching a
Less Commonly Taught Language in the United States and/or are
currently teaching at a Community College, Historically Black
College/University, or postsecondary Minority Serving Institution in
the United States. The program provides funding for selected teachers
in these categories to attend a CARLA Summer Institute for no charge.

Financial Aid Instructions:
1. Select a CARLA Summer Institute that meets your professional
development needs.
2. Propose a follow-up activity based on the institute—either an
outreach event or a classroom-based project.
3. Apply online by March 15, 2024.
