Description:

Title of position

Senior Lecturer in English with a Specialisation in Linguistics (one
or more)

Subject description

The subject English is oriented towards language and literature
studies with degree-awarding powers at all levels, including doctoral
studies. In addition to freestanding courses, the subject is included
in various degree programmes at the department, such as the Master's
Programme in Language and Intercultural Communication, the Subject
Teacher Programme and the Nordic Master's Programme for Foreign
Language Teachers. The subject offers courses both on campus and
online, and is committed to expanding online teaching and blended
learning within the on-campus courses. Research in English is mainly
conducted in linguistics, literary studies and language didactics. The
research carried out in English is also part of the Department's
interdisciplinary research domains.

Duties

The position includes teaching in a wide range of courses,
supervision, testing and assessment in English with a specialisation
in linguistics at first and second cycle levels, both on campus and
online, and both in freestanding courses (e.g. grammar and syntax,
phonetics, academic communication, language history) and in the
Subject Teacher Programme (e.g. work placement and language
didactics), and interdisciplinary courses and programmes at the
department. The holder of the position may also be asked to teach on
third-cycle courses (doctoral courses).

Duties also include course development and administrative tasks, such
as course responsibility and work with the University's learning
platform. There may be some evening teaching. The applicant is
expected to contribute to the activities of the entire subject and the
entire department, which requires good cooperation skills and may
involve teaching not only in English but eventually also in Swedish.
It is expected that within two years you will be prepared to
contribute in Swedish to the education, for example in
interdisciplinary courses and programmes. The position includes the
applicant's own research, and the applicant is expected to publish
their research results and actively pursue research funding from
leading Swedish and international research funders, and contribute to
the research environment of the subject and the whole department, e.g.
by participating in research seminars.

The work in the subject is conducted in a teaching team, and the
successful candidate is expected to contribute constructively in a
collegial spirit, both to the subject and to the department as a
whole. The main part of the work is to be carried out at the
department itself and the holder of the position is therefore expected
to be present at the department and participate in the ongoing work on
site, as well as engage in development issues and work environment
management at the department by participating in staff meetings,
internal meetings and conferences.
