Meeting Description:

The study of sign languages, especially, the local (or indigenous)
sign languages in Africa, has experienced a significant breakthrough
within the last 10 years. Advocacy for the development and promotion
of local sign languages and the use of same in Deaf education has
equally increased. Similarly, the relationship between mainstream
linguists, sign language interpreters and deaf communities has
improved, all courtesy of the work of the team of researchers and
language activists at Save the Deaf and Endangered Languages
Initiative (S-DELI).
