Call Deadline: 01-Feb-2024

Meeting Description:

This workshop will be held as a session in the 21st International
Congress of Linguists (ICL) which takes place from 8 to 14 September
2024 in Poznań, Poland. The workshops will be scheduled on Thursday
and Friday (12-13 September).

Conveners: Figen Karaca & Onur Özsoy

2nd Call for Papers:

Heritage language research has emerged as a dynamic field, offering
rich insights into bilingualism, psycholinguistics, and individual
differences. The increasing multilingual landscape globally, with a
substantial population having migration backgrounds, underscores the
relevance of studying heritage speakers. This workshop delves into the
intersection of psycho-/neurolinguistics and individual differences
within the realm of heritage language research.

Topics of Interest:

We invite contributions that shed light on various aspects of heritage
language research, including but not limited to:

• The application of psycho-/neurolinguistic methods (e.g.,
eye-tracking, EEG, MEG, self-paced listening/reading, priming) in
heritage language studies
• The modulation of language processing skills in heritage speakers by
individual differences such as language experience, cognitive skills,
and timing of language acquisition
• The online processing of both languages by heritage speakers.

Key Questions:

• How can studies employing psycho-/neurolinguistic methods inform
heritage language research?
• How do individual differences modulate language processing skills of
heritage speakers?
• How do heritage speakers process both their languages?

This workshop aims to foster a collaborative environment for
researchers and scholars to share empirical findings, innovative
methodologies, and theoretical insights that advance our understanding
of heritage languages through the lens of psycho-/neurolinguistics and
individual differences.

We invite researchers to submit their abstracts that fall within the
scope of the session and that are relevant for the key questions and
topics of interest of the session.

Submission Guidelines:

Abstracts should clearly state the research question(s), approach,
method, data, and (expected) results. They should not display the
names of the presenters, their affiliations or addresses, or any other
information that could reveal their authorship.

They should contain a title, five keywords, and a text between 300 and
400 words (including examples, excluding references).

Abstracts will be submitted via Easychair. Submissions to this session
should be made by selecting WS9 Heritage language (Karaca & Ozsoy) in
the submission form.

For inquiries and additional information, please reach out to the
workshop organizers: Onur Özsoy (oezsoy at leibniz-zas.de) and Figen
Karaca (figen.karaca at ru.nl).

We look forward to a stimulating exchange of ideas at the intersection
of heritage language research, psycho-/neurolinguistics, and
individual differences.
