Meeting Description:

On behalf of the Commission of Oriental Studies of the Polish Academy
of Sciences (Kraków Branch) and the Institute of Oriental Studies of
the Jagiellonian University, we would like to invite you to the Fifth
International Conference “Asian and African Languages in Translation
and Interpretation” to take place May 17th & 18th, 2024 in Krakow,
Poland. The conference will be held in English. Participants are
invited to present their research in person or remotely. The
presentations will last 20 minutes. This event will provide an
opportunity for scholars to meet and exchange views and experiences on
the practical and theoretical aspects of translation and
interpretation of text in the field of Asian and African languages.
Potential topics of the conference may include, but are not limited
to:
· history of translation from and to Asian and African languages
· translational strategies
· cultural aspects of translation
· aging of translation: seeking new interpretations and new formal
solutions
· literary text in time and place: archaization and modernization;
orientalization and occidentalization
· oriental manuscript: reading, translation, interpretation
· interpretation of text in different cultural contexts
· issues in popularizing lesser-known literatures: cultural barriers,
publishing strategies
· challenges for translators in the age of artificial intelligence
· problems and strategies in translating practical texts
· interpreter’s work in extreme circumstances (refugee crises, war,
conflict, natural disasters)
· literature in dialects and endangered languages
· translation of oral literature
· field research: linguistic analysis and translation
· written and oral sworn translations and challenges they pose

We invite those interested in participating in the conference to send
an abstract of their proposed presentation to
conference.aalti2024 at uj.edu.pl by February 15th, 2024. Notification of
acceptance will be sent by March 1st, 2024. Participants will be
requested to pay the conference fee of €50 by March 20th, 2024.

We encourage you to share information regarding this conference with
other scholars who may be interested in participating.
