Description:

The Institute of Linguistics, Department of Modern Languages, at
Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is seeking to fill the position of
a Research Assistant (m/f/d) (E13 TV-G-U, 65% part-time) starting 01
April 2024 and limited until 31 December 2027 within the project B04.
The project is part of the SFB 1629 “Negation in Language and Beyond
(NegLaB)”. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the
collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

The responsibilities of the position holder include collaboration and
scientific services in research in the sub-project “Negative scope
mismatches in coordination” within the CRC 1629 “NegLaB”. The
sub-project investigates the interaction of coordinated subjects with
sentence negation and examines the possible readings of such
interactions from a comparative linguistic perspective. It will be of
central interest to the PhD student to investigate the aforementioned
relationship in West African languages, which, due to their nature as
tone languages, should exhibit different disambiguation strategies
than the better-studied European intonation languages.

In particular, the following tasks await the position holder:
 - research into the above-mentioned interactions in West African
languages through field research on site and in Germany
 - active participation in the project
 - participation in scientific conferences and administrative work in
the project

There will be the opportunity for academic qualification (doctorate)
and self-directed research.

Employment requirements:
 - completed academic university degree (Master's degree) in a
relevant subject with a focus on theoretical syntax
 - very good knowledge of English (C1)
 - relevant computer skills (MS Office, Latex)
 - ability to work independently, teamwork and communication skills
 - demonstrable interest in the following subject areas: theoretical
linguistics, syntax, semantics, typology
 - field work knowledge and knowledge of a West-African language are
advantages

necessary, certified translations into German or English)
electronically in one single PDF document by 20 February 2024 to
