Description:

At the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Modern Languages, at
Goethe University Frankfurt, two positions of a Research associate
(m/f/d) (E13 TV-G-U, 65% part time) are to be filled on 01 April 2024
within the project C01 “The prosody of negation and its interpretation
in sentence comprehension” (PIs Prof. Dr. Markus Bader & Prof. Dr.
Frank Kügler). The project is part of the CRC 1629 “Negation in
Language and Beyond (NegLaB)”. The position will be non-permanent
until 31 December 2027. The salary grade is based on the job
characteristics of the collective agreement (TV-G-U) applicable to
Goethe University.

The responsibilities of the position holders include collaboration and
scientific services in research within the subproject "C01" within the
framework of the CRC 1629 “NegLaB”. The project investigates the
interplay of prosody and negation in sentence comprehension using
phonetic and psycholinguistic methods. In particular, the following
tasks await the position holders, whereby one position is primarily
responsible for the phonetic-phonological part of the project and the
other for the psycholinguistic part:
 - independent participation in Project C01 and involvement in
activities of the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1629 “NegLaB”
 - creation, implementation and analysis of language production
studies, corpus analyses and language perception studies
 - application of current statistical methods
 - willingness to cooperate and actively contribute within the
Collaborative Research Center
 - presentation of results at internal, national, and international
conferences, as well as documentation of results in scientific
publications

Opportunity for academic qualification (Ph.D.) and independent
research on a phonology-related topic will be provided and expected.

Requirements:
 - completed academic university degree (Master) in linguistics or a
relevant field with a linguistic, a phonetic or a psycholinguistic
focus (completed by 31.03.2024 at the latest)
 - research interest and knowledge in phonetics, phonology, prosody
and German intonation and/or psycholinguistics with a focus on speech
production and comprehension
 - very good language skills in German and English
 - proficient in common software (Office, Praat, R) and willingness to
learn further software for conducting experimental studies, in
particular by means of eye tracking
 - ability to work independently, teamwork, and communication skills
