Meeting Description:

The first conference devoted to a famous Lithuanian linguist Jonas
Jablonskis was held in 1993 by the Department of Language Culture at
the Institute of the Lithuanian Language and the Department of the
Lithuanian Language at Vilnius University. Since then, this conference
has become a tradition and takes place every autumn. Since 2003 it has
been hosted by Vilnius University and the Institute of the Lithuanian
Language; the place changes every year. The traditional international
scientific conference of Jonas Jablonskis provides opportunities for
scientists to discuss and communicate, not only to share the results
of the latest research, ideas, insights, but also to seek solutions to
the issues discussed at the conference. The conference examines not
only issues related to language standardization, but also presents
broader - both language system and applied - research. At the planned
29th conference, the organizers invite to focus on spoken and written
language, their varieties and relationship with the norm and
codification.

Call for Papers:

We invite you to participate in the 29th international scientific
conference of Jonas Jablonskis “Spoken and Written Language: Synchrony
and Diachrony”. The conference will take place at Vilnius University,
Faculty of Philology, Lithuania, on 26–27 September 2024.

We  welcome full paper presentations and poster presentations on the
following topics:

• The relationship between spoken and standard languages

• Lithuanian diatopic variations

• Old Lithuanian writings

• Sociolinguistics

• Cognitive linguistics

• Interdisciplinarity

• Other issues
