Symposium Announcement

We are pleased to announce that Columbia University and its Language
Resource Center will host the 2024 symposium of the Consortium for
Language Teaching and Learning on May 3-4, 2024, at the historic
Riverside Church next to its Morningside campus.

The topic of this year’s symposium is “Language and Climate: Making
Connections for a Sustainable Future.” The symposium will explore the
nexus between climate and language and examine the ideological
assumptions that shape the relationship between the natural world and
the language used to speak about it. The symposium also aspires to
serve as a disruptive starting point to challenge the language
teaching community to think beyond current approaches to language
studies and consider how climate issues can be made relevant to the
language classroom, to language curricula, and to language programs.
