Description:

Prof. Dr. Judith Tonhauser from the Department of English Linguistics
at the University of Stuttgart invites applications for a two-year
postdoctoral researcher position starting on October 1, 2024 (an
earlier start date is possible). The position is remunerated according
to the TV-L pay scale, specifically at 100% of E13 -- for information

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have a research
specialization in formal semantics/pragmatics, prosody, or social
meaning.

Eligibility/Qualification:
 - Ph.D. in linguistics (or, if in a related field, with a substantial
component in English linguistics); degree in hand by October 1, 2024,
or soon thereafter
 - Research specialization in formal semantics/pragmatics, prosody, or
social meaning
 - Experience in presenting at conferences or workshops, and in
publishing in conference proceedings or journals (ideally in English)
 - Excellent command of English (spoken and written)

Research in Judith Tonhauser's group focuses on natural language
meaning, including prosody and social meaning. There is a strong
emphasis on empirical research, with data being collected in
fieldwork, through experiments, and from corpora. The group has strong
ties to other groups in the Institute of Linguistics
(https://www.ling.uni-stuttgart.de/en/) and to groups in the Institute
for Natural Language Processing
(https://www.ims.uni-stuttgart.de/en/).

Your tasks include:
 - Conduct research in formal semantics/pragmatics, prosody, or social
meaning
 - Active participation in conferences and publishing research papers
 - Teach two courses per semester (in English)
 - Assistance with administrative tasks in the department of English
linguistics

Researchers from international backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge of German is not required. Support for conference travel and
research expenses is available.
