Job Description

The successful candidate will develop and extend current automatic syntactic
analyzers and taggers and be willing to work on text normalization
components as well. In addition, s\he should have a predisposition to work
with naturally-occurring text corpora and a strongly empirical orientation
to syntactic issues.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* PhD in Linguistics or degree in Computer Science and at least a M.A. in
Linguistics
* Computational Syntax, NLP, Statistics
* Experience with automatic learning and syntactic tagging systems
* Knowledge of existing NLP tools
* C/C++
* Previous experience with speech processing and applications a plus
* Near native knowledge of at least one of the following languages is a
strong plus: Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, German, Korean, Japanese,
Mandarin or Cantonese Chinese

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
?         Maintain proprietary Taggers and Parsers.
?         Create new NLP tools as required for several diverse languages.

The successful candidate will assist in the creation, maintenance and
extension of a text/language processing component for multiple languages
used by Conversay's proprietary text-to-speech and automatic speech
recognition engine.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (including education)
* Thorough understanding of phonology and morphology.
* Basic C programming skills and/or experience with scripting languages such
as Perl.
* Advanced degree in linguistics or computer science (Ph.D. a strong plus).
* Knowledge of other areas of linguistics and natural language processing a
strong plus.
* Familiarity with text normalization/tokenization issues a strong plus.
* Knowledge of multiple languages a strong plus (especially Portuguese,

Job Description
The successful candidate will design, implement, and run suites of automated
linguistic tests for Conversay's proprietary text-to-speech and speech
recognition system for multiple languages.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (including education)
* Previous industry experience in speech technology / language processing,
OR advanced degree in linguistics or a closely related field.
* Experience in using scripting or programming languages, especially C, C++,
Perl, Visual Basic or Visual Test.
* Experience with design & use of automated test tools a plus.
* Previous experience with speech applications a strong plus.
* Native or near-native knowledge of one of the following languages a strong
plus: Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, German, Korean, Japanese,
Mandarin or Cantonese Chinese.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Design and implement automated tools and scripts to evaluate the accuracy
and functionality of core language components of Conversay software.  For
example, write tools, scripts, and expected-behavior frames for testing the
text-normalization component.
* Work with the Quality Assurance team to design regression tests for core
language components. Evaluate bugs reported by QA and direct those bugs to
the appropriate members of the Core Engineering team.
* Work with the Usability and Quality Assurance team to evaluate user
interactions with the language engines, e.g. intelligibility of speech
synthesis.
* Perform any other duties which may be assigned or necessary.

The successful candidate will be responsible for phonetic transcription work
in several languages. Duties include: research and analysis to determine
specifications for phonetic processing modules, research and purchase of
lexical resources, creation and maintenance of lexicons, and analysis of
speech and text corpora. The ongoing results of this work will be used in
the development of Conversay's proprietary speech recognition and synthesis
engines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (including education)
* Ph.D. in Linguistics with focus on empirical phonetic study
* Experience with data and corpus analysis
* Native (or near-native) speaker of Japanese or Korean a strong plus
* Familiarity with Perl or other scripting/programming languages a strong
plus
* Familiarity with use of relational databases a strong plus

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Determine phone sets and transcription standards for lexicons in several
languages
* Determine lexical entries for various application-specific lexicons
