The Laboratoire Lorrain de Recherche en Informatique et ses Applications
LORIA in Nancy, France, will host the 7th International Workshop
on Parsing Technologies (IWPT'03) from 23 to 25 April, 2003.
IWPT'03 continues the tradition of biennial workshops on parsing
technology organised by SIGPARSE, the Special Interest Group on Parsing
of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). This workshop
series was initiated by Masaru Tomita in 1989. The first workshop, in
Pittsburgh and Hidden Valley, was followed by workshops in Cancun
(Mexico) in 1991; Tilburg (Netherlands) and Durbuy (Belgium) in 1993;
Prague and Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) in 1995; Boston/Cambridge
(Massachusetts) in 1997; Trento (Italy) in 2000, and Beijing (China) in
2001.
The hosting organisation for IWPT'03, LORIA (Lorraine Laboratory for
Research in Information Technology and its Applications), is a joint
research unit of the following organisations:
- the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS),
- the National Polytechnical Institute of Lorraine (INPL),
- the National Institute for Research in Information Technology and
Automation (INRIA),
- the Henri Poincare' University, Nancy 1,
- the University of Nancy 2.
Topics of interest for IWPT'03
--------------------------------
Topics of interest for IWPT'03 include, but are not limited to:
theoretical and practical studies of parsing algorithms for natural
language sentences, texts, fragments, dialogues, ill-formed sentences,
speech input, multi-dimensional (pictorial) languages, multimedia (web)
documents, and parsing issues arising or viewed in a multimodal
context. Both knowledge-based and statistical approaches are welcome.
Submitting Papers
-----------------
Two types of submissions are invited:
- full papers, to be presented as such during the workshop and to be
published in the workshop proceedings (maximally 12 pages);
- short papers, to be presented at the workshop in the form of a poster
plus a summary oral presentation in a short-paper session; two-page
summaries will be published in the workshop proceedings.
Prospective authors are invited to send their submissions electronically
through the website http://iwpt03.loria.fr (see below for formatting
and submission instructions).
Full papers should not exceed 12 pages; short papers should not exceed
8 pages. Submission is electronically, in postscript or pdf form. Only
in case electronic submission is impossible, four (4) hard copies of the

Applications (LORIA) à Nancy, France, accueillera le 8ème Colloque
International sur les Techniques d'Analyse Syntaxique du 23 au 25
avril 2003.
IWPT'03 poursuit la tradition des colloques biennaux sur les
techniques d'analyse syntaxique organisés par SIGPARSE (Special
Interest Group on Parsing), groupe de l'ACL (Association for
Computational Linguistics ). Cette série de colloques a été
initialisée par Masaru Tomita en 1989. La première édition, à
Pittsburgh et Hidden Valley, a été suivie par celles de Cancun
(Mexique) en 1991; Tilburg (Pays-Bas) et Durbuy (Belgique) en 1993;
Prague et Karlovy Vary (République Tchèque) en 1995; Boston/Cambridge
(Massachusetts) en 1997; Trento (Italie) en 2000, et Pékin (Chine) en
2001.
Le LORIA (Laboratoire Lorrain de Recherche en Informatique et ses
Applications), qui accueille IWPT'03, est une unité mixte de recherche
(UMR 7503) commune au CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche
Scientifique), à l'INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en
Informatique et en Automatique), à l'INPL (Institut National
Polytechnique de Lorraine), et aux universités Henri Poincaré, Nancy 1
et Nancy 2.
Thèmes de IWPT'03
-----------------
Les principaux thèmes d'IWPT'03 incluent les aspects théoriques et
pratiques liés à l'analyse syntaxique de phrases, textes,fragments de
textes, dialogues, phrases mal formées, énoncés oraux, langages
iconiques, documents multimédia issus du web ainsique les problèmes
spécifiques à l'analyse syntaxique dans un contexte multimodal. Cette
liste n'est pas limitative.
Les approches tant statistiques qu'à base de connaissances symboliques
sont bienvenues.
Soumission des papiers
----------------------
Deux types de papiers sont attendus:
- des articles longs, qui seront présentés tels quels au cours du
colloque et publiés dans les actes d'IWPT'03 (soumission: maximum 12
pages);
- des articles courts, qui seront présentés sous forme de posters et
sous forme de courts exposés oraux lors d'une session "papiers
courts" du colloque. Un résumé de deux pages sera publié dans les
actes d'IWPT'03 (soumission: maximum 8 pages).
Les auteurs sont invités à soumettre leurs propositions sous forme
électronique via le site http://iwpt03.loria.fr, rubrique "soumission
des articles".
Les papiers longs ne devront pas dépasser 12 pages; les papiers courts
ne devront pas dépasser 8 pages. Tous les papiers, exclusivement aux
formats pdf ou postscript, seront soumis électroniquement. Uniquement
dans le cas où la soumission électronique est impossible, quatre (4)
exemplaires papier seront envoyés au président du Comité de Programme:
