Ph.D scholarships available at the University of Stuttgart

>From 2003 on, the graduate school "Sprachliche Repräsentationen und
ihre Interpretation" ("Linguistic Representations and Their
Interpretation") accepts applicants who work on French or Italian
linguistics, with special focus on syntactic and semantic theories
which are relevant for natural language processing or corpus
linguistics. Suggestions for research themes concerning French or
Italian are published on the web

General call (as published on linguist list):

The graduate school "Sprachliche Repräsentationen und ihre
Interpretation" ("Linguistic Representations and Their
Interpretation") is pleased to announce the availability of doctoral
scholarships starting on May 1st (2 scholarships) &/or
October-November 1st 2003 (4 scholarships).

The graduate school is a structured doctoral program in linguistics
and computational linguistics at the University of Stuttgart. The
participating lecturers are: Artemis Alexiadou, Rainer Bäuerle,
Grzegorz Dogil, Hans Kamp, Bernd Möbius, Uwe Reyle, Christian Rohrer,
Achim Stein.

Applicants
Applicants for the scholarships should:
- be no older than 28 years of age (exceptions are possible if
  particular reasons exist);
- have a Diplom, M.A., B.A., or an equivalent academic degree;
- be able to read and understand English (and preferably also German);
- be able to write German or English;
- be prepared to take an active part in the work of the
  Graduiertenkolleg. This includes both scientific work (lectures,
  seminars, workshops, etc.) and organisational work.

Applications
Applications are accepted in German and English. Applications should
contain:
- a letter of application (no formal requirements) ;
- the names, addresses, and e-mail addresses of two people who will
  send a letter of reference;
- a Ph.D. dissertation proposal (possibly written after a discussion
  with the prospective supervisor);
- a CV including transcript, results of examinations, classes attended;
- email address if available;
- a written thesis (e.g., M.A. dissertation, Studienarbeit or
  Diplomarbeit). Any substantial written work may be submitted.
Applications should be sent to the speaker of the school (currently
Artemis Alexiadou). Closing date for applications is February 1st, 2003.
Please arrange for the two letters of reference to be sent directly to
the Speaker of the school.
