Job description:

The Department for Computational Linguistics of the
Heinrich-Heine-Universitaet Duesseldorf (Chair of Computational
Linguistics: Prof. Dr. Laura Kallmeyer) offers a position as
wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in (TV-L E13 100%) for a postdoc or an
advanced doctoral student. Alternatively, the position can be split
into two half positions (TV-L E13 50%).

The position can start in July 2011 or, at the latest, in October
2011. Its duration is limited to three years, maybe with the
possibility of an extension. It includes 4 hours of teaching per week
(or, in case of a 50% position, 2 hours) in basic computational
linguistics courses.

The candidate should preferably have some teaching experience and
should be willing to participate in the research activities conducted
at the Department for Computational Linguistics. These cover the
following areas:

1. syntax-semantics interface
2. grammar formalisms, in particular (but not limited to) Tree
   Adjoining Grammars
3. frame-based (i.e., feature-structure-based) semantic composition
4. data-driven parsing
5. machine translation

The Department for Computational Linguistics participates with several
projects in the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 991 funded by the
DFG that will start in July 2011. The CRC is a large collection of
research projects; it focusses on the structure of representations in
language, cognition and science with a particular emphasis on frames
and on lexical semantics. Besides the CRC projects there will also be
a project on parsing and machine translation starting in October
2011. This constitutes a rich and stimulating research environment.

Salary is on the German scale TV-L E13. The position is for three
years. The starting date is July 1, 2011 or later; at the latest
October 1, 2011.

Applications should include the following:

1. Cover letter outlining interest in the position and academic goals
2. CV including information about education, related work and about
   volunteer experience
3. Copies of certificates.
4. If available, a copy of the PhD thesis and other sample
   publications.
