Subject: Translation
Dear Lowlanders,
"An International Meeting" is the title of a paper in MEANDER (35), a Dutch
poetry e-zine, with poems in Dutch, Frisian and occasionally Afrikaans. The
poet Eddy Lie asks for translations of his poem "Ontmoeting". One in every
language will be published, with the name of the translator, on his Internet
site (see below).
Up to now (May 15) he has translations in English, German, French, Afrikaans,
Surinamese, Papiamento, Indonesian and probably Portuguese. He judged my
translation in (East-)Twents as part of the Low Saxon in the Netherlands also
acceptable (but I am ready to withdraw it if Twents is not "representative"
for Nedersaksisch).
Since he was not aware of the existence of the Lowlands-L mailing list I
informed Eddy Lie of it and about the recognition of various regional and
minority languages. I add my last e-mail to him. It contains - quoted - the
English translation that he received and sent to me.
I hope it is worthwhile to send you this challenge.

Een internationale ontmoeting via het Internet
De auteur Eddy Lie, die ook in Meander publiceert,
wil via het Internet een internationale ontmoeting tot
stand brengen. Als basis daarvoor nam hij het volgende
gedicht :
ONTMOETING
Jij kijkt mij aan
ik kijk jou aan
wij zien elkaar
iets dichter komt het hart
Gevoelens dansen als muziek
strijkstok noch dirigent aanwezig
jouw ogen spreken een eigen taal
je gezicht weerspiegelt een boodschap
Dit is een ontmoeting
tussen jou en mij
jij mag er zijn
door mij
ik mag er zijn
door jou
Dit lied hoor ik
morgen
en overmorgen
Het is de bedoeling dat het gedicht in zo veel mogelijk
talen wordt vertaald. Het gedicht "Ontmoeting" is
momenteel reeds vertaald in het Duits, het Engels, het
Japans en het Surinaams. Wie hieraan wil meewerken
kan kontakt opnemen met Eddy Lie, Cervanteslaan 40,

Het gedicht en de diverse vertalingen worden daarna
online geplaatst op de site van Eddy Lie, met vermelding
van de naam van de vertaler.
