Leive Leiglanders,

,,bliid''' or ,,in 'n goude luun''. Het dat ouk maal dat tiidwourd *_kandideln_

Leve Leeglanners,
Keen mank Ju weet wat vun de Afkumst vun dat neddersassische (nedderdüütsche)
Egenschuppswoort un Biwoort ,,kandidel'' af? Is dat 'n franzöösch Lehnwoort (<
_candide_?) or 'n pseudo-franzöösch Lehnwoort? ,,Kandidel'' bedüüdt sowat as
,,blied'' or ,,in 'n gode Luun''. Hett dat ok maal dat Tietwoort *,,kandideln''
geven? Dat fraag ik, wieldat dat ok dat Woort ,,överkandidelt'' gifft, un dat
bedüüdt sowat as ,,överdreven blied'' or ,,mall'', ok in't Missingsch un in't
Noorddüütsche as ,,überkandidelt''.
Gröten, un Dank in'n Vöruut.

Dear Lowlanders,
Who among you knows anything about the etymology of the Low Saxon (Low German)
adjective and adverb _kandidel_? Is it a French loanword (< _candide_) or a
pseudo-French loanword? _Kandidel_ denotes something like 'cheerful', 'chipper'
or 'in a good mood'. Might there have been the verb *_kandideln_ at one time?
I am asking this because there is also the word _euver-kandideld_
(_överkandidelt_) which denotes something like 'excessively cheerful' or
'silly', 'crazy', also in Missingsch and North German as _überkandidelt_.
Regards, and thanks in advance.
Reinhard/Ron
