The usage is "from X through Y to Z" (the colour of the iron changed
from black through red to white, as it was heated).  (No idea of this is
the correct colour sequence!)  Now, of course, I realise that you can't
say 'ultra-violet through infra-red', because there's nowhere beyond
infra-red to go to (I think - have you deduced yet that I am not good at
science!)

It's the OED's usage 5b (and now I know why I picked a colour term - the
last reference is about pottery glazes "ranging in colour from pale
blue, through green, to yellow, brown and red").
