GORDIES HOLDING DIALECT CHURCH SERVICE

A Northumberland church is to host a
service conducted entirely in the
traditional north-east dialect of
Pitmatic this afternoon.

The Church of the Holy Sepunchre in
Ashington is the venue for the unusual
event, which has been organized by the
Northumbrian Language Society.

Worshippers will sing hymns and hear
Bible readings in the Gordie tongue.

The service is aimed at promoting the
dialect, amid fears it is being eroded.
