Subject: Language varieties

A recent TV news item claimed that the Queen no longer speaks the Queen's
English. Australian researchers have shown that HM's accent has softened
over the last 50-odd years. Since this is rather obvious I wonder why
anybody bothered to do research on it. But it is interesting to compare her

accent with that of Prince William, who certainly doesn't have the same
clarity of diction but tends to speak as if his tongue is too large for his

mouth. (I don't think that is genetic).
