Georg asked:

>does anybody know how the name for the American(?) popular,
expensive and delicious (all epithets according to my personal perception)
ice cream "Häagan Dadz" ... can be explained? Just a successful attempt to
look weird, or is there more? And is there a commonly agreed way to
pronounce this?<

I believe it should be "Haägen Dazs" and it is totally invented - a kind of

ideograph, I suppose - a logo in the form of pseudo-words. In London it's
pronounced "Hah-gen Dahss" or "Dass" with a hard "g". The London phone book

omits the chicken scratches.
