A chairde,

A warm thank you to Frans Buter for his wealth of
detail concerning his sociolinguistic affliations in
Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen. I for one would invite other
Lowlanders, wherever they are and whatever their
mother tongue, to contribute their own feelings on
personal allegiance, social history, and the histories
of their particular language.

Hopefully with this sort of qualitative data we can
all better understand the human geography of what only
too many of us take as ink on paper or word on the
screen. A language is a people, and we would do well
to remember that, cherish it, and honour it.

It is often the case that new discoveries are made in
the margins of pages, and in footnotes that editors
often overlook as irrelevant or too esoteric. I would
contend that in all of us there is a wealth of
sociolinguistic serendipity concerning the history of
our languages - and if we understand these, we are
better equipped as academics, students, subscribers
and whatever else to promote our languages and, by
extension, the well-being of the cultures and the
peoples that use them.

No story is worthless. Please contribute, no matter
how small you feel it is. Serendipity hides in the
corners.

Go raibh maith agaibh,

Críostóir.
