Dear Lowlanders,

The following is an excerpt from ...

d. _Grine medine; a yidishe, literarishe tsaytshrift_ / _Grine Medine;
Een tijdschrift voor liefhebbers van de Jiddisje taal_ (Amsterdam), No.
1 (September 2000), 20 pp. This bilingual (Dutch-Yiddish) quarterly is
edited by a small group of Amsterdam Yiddish-lovers. Attempting to read
the Dutch, one discovers -- to parody Kafka -- that one knows more Dutch
than he/she realized. About a third of the journal is Yiddish and the
rest Dutch. The journal is attractively designed and tastefully edited.

By the way, as far as I know, _grine medine_ (['grine me'dine]) means 'green
country/state' (< Hebrew _medinah_).

I have heard good things about this periodical, though I have not yet had the
pleasure of seeing an issue.

Another "by the way" ... It would be nice if we at Lowlands-L published a
book and periodical review the way the good folks at Mendele do. This would
be in addition to our permanent "Beginners' Guides to Offline Language
Materials"

If you have any reviews to contribute, please send them to me marked "for
review issue," and I will save them and publish them monthly. This could be
any online or offline publications (including periodicals) pertaining to our
Lowlands languages and cultures.

Best regards,
Reinhard/Ron
