Dear Lowlanders,

Sometime within the last year, I purchased the CD "The World's Room"
from a
group called the Old Blind Dogs, which, according to the liner notes
with
the CD, hail from Aberdeen (or Aberdeenshire maybe?) in Scotland.  The
CD
consists mostly of what I will naively call "Traditional Scottish
Music",
with border pipes, pennywhistles, bouzoukis, and citterns, and the like,
and
of one or two songs that are more contemporary sounding but with
considerable traditional influence.

The first song I heard from the album, before I acutally bought it, was
called "Forfar Sodger", and after listening to it I convinced myself
that it
was sung in a different language.  At this time I had not yet learned of
the
existance of the Scots language, and assumed that this other languages
was
Scots Gealic.  I read later that the lyrics were in English but
influenced
by Scots(at that point I was still under the assumtion that this meant
Scots
Gealic) vocabulary, and so my assumtions were (incorrectly) verified.  I
let
one of my friends listen to the music, and she said that it sounded like
it
was a different language too.

Since that time, mainly through this list, I have learned a fair bit
about
the Scots language, and have read a small amount of Scots poetry and
other
writing.  The CD also contains lyrics to the songs that actally do have
singing.  After comparing the lyrics on the CD with some other Scots
writing, it seems that the some lyrics on the CD look less like English
than
some of the writing I have seen that is Scots.    Is there anybody on
this
list who is familiar with the group and the CD.  If so, can you tell me
if
any or all of these songs are in Scots.

to click on the image on the opening page to get to any information on
the
band.  From here you can find out how to hear sound files.  Also, you
can go
to www.greenlinnet.com and do a search for "Old Blind Dogs".  Once you
find
the album, there is a link to "Listen to the whole album in real
audio".  If
you have not actually heard the group before, perhaps you can give a
listen.
  This may help you in answering my question.
