This is of course perfectly true (and, unfortunately, too little known).
Linguistic research, anyway, shows that often immigrant communities tend to
be more "conservative" in terms of language, and very often preserve
language characteristics that are obsolete in the home-country. This is
true, by the way, not only to language, but in general to oral traditions
such as music, cooking, folk tales and so on.
