I hasten to add that I could be wrong. However I think there is a
tendency
for grammatical distinctions (be they within Scots or compared to
English)
to be retained in Ulster more than in Scotland, whereas items of
vocabulary
and certain phonological features are retained in Scotland but lost in
Ulster.

Similarly, the habitual tense (or should that even be mood?) is retained
in
Ulster (particularly in Antrim) where it seems to be lost in Scotland,
and
there are other examples. However, words such as 'speir' and 'ken'
(except
in tags) are all but lost here.

These just strike me as general tendencies and there are exceptions, but
would require wide-ranging research before such statements could be
proved
beyond doubt.
